# Notifications

> Understand alerts, channels and events managed from the Control panel.

**Notifications** help you detect relevant events without manually checking each module. They are intended for people and are based on Bold events.

See [Audit and events](/en/concepts/control-panel/audit-and-events) to understand where the events behind notifications, external notifications and automations come from.

## Channels

| Channel | Use |
| - | - |
| Application | Alerts within Bold with a counter, list and read status. |
| Email | Emails for events that should be seen even when the user is not connected. |
| External notification | Deliveries to external systems. Managed as a technical integration. |

Each user manages their own subscriptions when the channel allows it.

## What to notify

Configure notifications for changes that require action, such as completed receipts, shipments, orders, maintenance work orders or administrative events.

Avoid notifying every informational change. Too much noise causes important alerts to be ignored.

## Relationship with permissions

A notification should not replace read permissions. If the user cannot access the module or record, they may receive less context or be unable to open the details.
