# Inventory valuation

> Understand how stock is valued by item, lot, and location.

**Inventory valuation** calculates the economic value of recorded stock.

Bold values stock lines using positive recorded quantity, including reserved stock, and associated cost, usually by lot or source.

<Info>
  Valuation uses a single currency: euros (EUR). Bold currently does not support valuation in multiple currencies.
</Info>

## What is valued

| Data | Usage |
| - | - |
| Item | Reference being valued. |
| Location | Where the stock is held. |
| Lot | Source and cost of the traceable group. |
| Quantity | Positive recorded stock. |
| Unit cost | Cost applied to that line. |
| Value | Quantity multiplied by unit cost. |

## Formula

```text theme={null}
Line value = positive recorded stock x unit cost
Total value in EUR = sum of lines valued in EUR
```

## Common differences

Two lines for the same item can have different costs if they belong to different lots. This preserves differences from purchasing, manufacturing, or adjustments.

If a lot has no cost, check its source. It may come from a receipt without a price, an adjustment, temporary consumption, or incomplete manufacturing.
