# Reports

> Understand embedded Power BI reports and when to use them instead of operational views.

Smart Factory **reports** use embedded Power BI to analyze Bold data with prepared visualizations, filters and fields.

Use them for periodic analysis, indicator monitoring and management views.

## What they represent

| Concept | Use |
| - | - |
| Report | Analytical view with pages, visualizations and filters. |
| Data model | Set of entities prepared to analyze Bold data. |
| Duplicated report | Copy of an existing report you can adapt. |
| Editable report | Copy you can adapt if you have permissions. |

## When to use them

| Requirement | Use |
| - | - |
| Analyze trends, compare periods or prepare reports | **Reports**. |
| View live shop floor status, operations in progress or operational OEE | [Manufacturing dashboards](/en/concepts/manufacturing/dashboards). |
| Investigate a specific record | The corresponding operational module, such as orders, stock or work orders. |

Reports are not a real-time view. They refresh according to the environment's schedule.

Access to reports, including creation and duplication, requires **analytical reports** in your plan. When this option is disabled, the application does not show the list or allow report creation, and the API rejects those operations.

## Permissions

| Action | Required permission |

| Open reports | Read access to reports. |
| Create, duplicate or delete reports | Edit access to reports. |

## Usage rules

* Duplicate reports before making significant changes.
* Use purpose-oriented names such as `Cost per asset` or `Weekly production`.
* Review dates, statuses, units and filters before making decisions.
* Use dashboards when you need live operational status.
