# Tasks

> Understand how to create, share and review one-off work executed by Boldy.

A **task** is one-off work you delegate to Boldy. You can start it manually, from an automation or through an integration.

The task retains instructions, messages, attachments, tools used, clarifications, results and credits consumed.

## One-off task configuration

| Option | Use |
| - | - |
| Instructions | Describe the result you need and the work context. |
| Intelligence level | Adjusts reasoning capability and expected consumption. |
| Visibility | Determines who can view the task. |
| Work mode | Determines whether Boldy can make changes or only look up data. |
| Files and audio | Add context to instructions. |

### Visibility

| Option | Who can see it |
| - | - |
| **Only me** | The user who created the task. |
| **Shared** | Other users with access to Smart Factory tasks. |

The owner can continue their task. Intervening in someone else's shared task requires permission to manage all tasks.

### Work mode

| Option | Behavior |
| - | - |
| **Read only** | Boldy can look up and analyze data but cannot modify it. |
| **Allow changes** | Boldy can use permitted actions during the task. |

**Allow changes** mode does not bypass access controls. Boldy can execute only actions the task has permission for.

## Statuses

| Status | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Pending** | Wait for processing to start. |
| **Running** | Boldy is working. |
| **Action required** | Respond to the pending clarification or decision. |
| **Completed** | Review the result. |
| **Failed** | Review the error and decide whether to start another task. |

Tasks expire after 28 days of inactivity. If you need to resume an expired task, create another with the necessary context.

## Source channel

A task started from a messaging channel retains that channel. You can view activity and results on the web, but must respond from the same external conversation.

Read [Channels and related identities](/en/concepts/control-panel/channels-and-related-identities) to understand how Bold recognizes a user conversing through another channel.

## How to write instructions

Include the goal, period, relevant records, limits and expected format.

| Case | Example |
| - | - |
| Operational summary | `Summarize MOs in progress with delays and next steps.` |
| Maintenance review | `Review open work orders for asset ENV-01 and highlight those requiring action.` |
| Data validation | `Check attachments and identify inconsistencies before importing them.` |

<Warning>
Review critical tasks before using their results to make decisions or change operational data.
</Warning>
