# Import data

> Upload data from CSV or Excel to create, update, merge, cancel or delete records in bulk.

Use **Import data** to make bulk changes from a CSV or Excel file. Each import combines an object with an action, such as creating families, updating items, adding order lines or cancelling MOs.

## What you can import

| Area | Example actions |

| Catalog | Create or delete families and items, merge items, add or delete values, create properties and manage item suppliers. |
| Planning | Create, edit or delete customers, suppliers, sales orders and purchase orders. |
| Manufacturing | Create or edit areas, workstations and operation types; create recipes, versions, operations, materials, steps and inspections, or cancel MOs and requests. |
| Warehouse | Create or edit locations; create receipts and shipments, add or delete lines, receive, ship, reverse and import stock counts. |
| Operational data | Create or edit employees and maintenance assets; update planning, lot management and relationships according to the available template. |

## Before importing data

Before uploading a file, check these rules:

1. **Accepted formats:** files with the `.xlsx` or `.csv` extension are allowed.
2. **In Excel:** Bold reads only the **first sheet** and takes column names from the **first row**.
3. **In CSV:** the first row must contain column names.
4. **Required fields:** the screen indicates which Bold fields you must map to the file columns.
5. **Actions with impact:** cancelling, deleting or merging data can affect stock, orders, traceability and manufacturing history. Limit these imports to authorized staff.

## Available actions by entity

The screen organizes templates by entity and action. Always review the specific template because each action has different required columns.

| Item | Create, delete, merge, add values, delete values, update planning and update lot management. |
| Customer and supplier | Create, edit or delete. |
| Recipe | Create a recipe, add a version, add an operation, add a raw material or semi-finished item, add a step and add an inspection. |
| Receipt | Create, add lines, delete lines, receive or reverse. |
| Shipment | Create, add lines, delete lines, ship or reverse. |
| Stock count | Add count entries. |
| Sales order | Create, delete, add lines, edit lines or cancel lines. |
| Purchase order | Create, delete, add lines, edit lines or cancel lines. |
| Manufacturing order | Cancel orders. |
| Manufacturing request | Cancel requests. |

  Imports can create, modify, cancel, merge or delete data. Always review the template and test with a few records before running bulk uploads.

## Import data from CSV or Excel

**Path:** **Control panel > Import data**

    In **Data to import**, choose the information you will change. For example, select **Item** to work with raw materials, semi-finished items or finished products.

    In **Action to perform**, choose the change. For example, **Edit** lets you update names, descriptions or lead times of existing records using their code.

    Click **Select file** and choose the CSV or Excel file. Bold shows the number of detected rows and columns.

    Map each field required by Bold to the corresponding file column.

    Once you have mapped the required fields, click the review button to process the upload.

## Recommendations by risk

| Action | Risk | Recommendation |

| Create master data | Medium | Review duplicates, codes and units. |
| Update planning or lots | High | Check the impact on projected stock and traceability. |
| Cancel sales, purchase or manufacturing orders | High | Review statuses and work already performed. |
| Merge items | High | Only allow users who understand the catalog, stock and planning to do it. |
| Delete records | High | Confirm dependencies before importing. |

## Common problems

| Problem | What to review |
| - | - |
| A row is rejected | Check required columns, date formats, codes and references. |
| Duplicates are created | Normalize codes and references before importing. |
| The result affects other modules | Imports can update projections used by planning, warehouse or manufacturing. |
| The Excel/CSV file looks wrong | Check the separator, encoding and template headers. |
