# Work order costs

> Review labor, material and spare part costs in maintenance.

Use **Maintenance costs** to analyze how much a maintenance intervention costs. Bold separates material and labor costs and shows the work order's total cost.

## Data you can review

| Section | What it includes |
| - | - |
| Total cost | Sum of materials and labor. |
| Material cost | Spare parts and consumption recorded in the work order. |
| Labor cost | Hours recorded per employee. |
| Material details | Item, lot, quantity, cost per unit and total cost. |
| Labor details | Employee, time, hourly cost and total cost. |

## Before analyzing a work order

* The work order must have recorded materials or time.
* Material consumption must be associated with a lot to use its actual cost.
* Employees must have an hourly cost if you want to value their time.
* Actions and causes must be specified if you want to compare costs by intervention type.

## Analyze the cost of an intervention

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the list">
    Go to **Costs** and open **Work orders**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Filter the work order">
    Search by code or date range. Sort by total cost to locate expensive interventions.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the details">
    Use **Actions** to open the work order and go to the **Costs** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review materials">
    Check the item, lot, quantity, cost per unit and total cost. If the cost does not match expectations, open the lot.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review labor">
    Check the employee, time, hourly cost and total cost. If cost is missing, review the employee's hourly cost.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## How it is calculated

| Cost | Calculation |
| - | - |
| Material per line | Consumed quantity x lot cost per unit. |
| Labor per line | Recorded hours x employee hourly cost. |
| Work order total cost | Material cost + labor cost. |

<Info>
  Work order cost relies on data recorded during the intervention. If consumption, lots, time records or hourly costs are missing, the analysis may be incomplete.
</Info>

## Example

A work order for a conveyor belt consumes `2` bearings from lot `ROD-2026-04` at `€18.00/unit` and records `1.5 h` of a technician's time at `€24.00/h`.

```text theme={null}
Materials: 2 x 18.00 = €36.00
Labor: 1.5 x 24.00 = €36.00
Total cost: €72.00
```

You can then compare this cost with other work orders for the same asset, cause or action to identify recurrence.

## Common problems

| Problem | What to review |
| - | - |
| Material cost is zero | The spare part has no valued lot or consumption is not recorded. |
| Labor cost is zero | The employee has no hourly cost or the time record is missing. |
| A work order seems more expensive than expected | Review consumed quantity, lot cost and actual intervention duration. |
| You cannot see maintenance costs | Review maintenance cost permissions. |
