# Record maintenance work

> Record a maintenance intervention with its asset, cause, actions, time, and materials.

In Bold, **work orders** record interventions on assets. They can be corrective, responding to a failure or incident, or preventive, resulting from a planned inspection.

You can create and prepare the work order from **Maintenance**. If the technician works from a tablet or shared work center, they can also create it from **work mode**.

## Before you start

* Create the asset and causes you will use.
* Define reusable actions if you want the technician to follow standardized checks or tasks.
* To work in **work mode**, select an active employee.
* Check that the technician has access to maintenance and the items they can record as consumed materials.

## Create the work order from management mode

**Path:** **Maintenance > Work orders > Add new**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create the work order">
    Select the work order type, asset, and main cause. You can also enter the owner, code, and notes they should read.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add planned work">
    Add the actions the technician must complete. You can add a predefined action, write its instructions for this intervention, and mark it as required.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record execution">
    Add consumed materials and time for the employees involved.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and complete">
    Check causes, actions, time, and materials before closing the work order.
  </Step>
</Steps>

From the **Actions** column, open a record to view its details or change it.

The work order contains these tabs:

* **Information:** shows basic work order data and lets you add additional causes. For example, for an electrical failure on a forklift, you can record the electrical fault as the main cause and a broken plug as an additional cause.
* **Consumed materials:** lets you add items and quantities of spare parts or consumables.
* **Actions:** gathers the tasks needed for maintenance. It shows status, whether the action is required, type, owner, theoretical time, dates, result, instructions, and execution notes. The **Req.** column indicates whether it is required (**Yes**/**No**); to change it, use the padlock button in the **Actions** column.
* **Time entries:** records time spent on maintenance.
* **Comments:** lets you add and delete formatted comments with attachments.
* **Costs:** shows spare part and labor costs.

## Work from work mode

  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Work mode does not let you undo completion. While the work order is completed, you cannot add time records, materials, or actions. To reopen it, go to **Maintenance > Work orders**, open the completed work order, and use **Undo finish**.
</Warning>

## Recommendations

* Use stable causes to analyze recurrence.
* Add actions before starting if you want the technician to follow a checklist.
* Use **Stop** when interrupting work so recorded time reflects the actual intervention.
* Review materials and results before finishing.
