# Register an employee

> Create and maintain employees for shifts, assignments and productivity analysis.

**Employees** represent the people whose work is planned or recorded in Bold. They are used to record time, planning, productivity and costs.

An employee is different from a user. The employee represents the person in operations; the user is the account they use to access Bold.

**Path:** **People > Employees > Register new employee**

## Complete their identity

Enter their first and last names.

**Employee code (optional):** identifies each employee. If you use a code from another system, enter it here. Otherwise, leave the field blank for Bold to generate it.

## Workstation assignments

**Path:** **People > Employees > Registered employee**

The **Production** tab lets you configure the employee's usual workstations and skills. Depending on the company configuration, work mode can use this data to display the operations that apply to them.

**Assign usual workstation:** specify where they normally work.

**Assign skill:** specify which tasks the employee knows how to perform.

For example, for a line operator you can record:

* **Usual workstations:** *Assembly line B* and *Chassis screwdriving station*.
* **Skills:** *MIG/MAG welding*, *Overhead crane operation* and *Reading technical drawings*.
