# Adjust stock

> Correct individual stock discrepancies with a traceable movement.

A stock adjustment corrects an individual difference between the recorded quantity and physical stock. Use it when you have identified what to correct and do not need a full stock count.

Bold records the adjustment as a technical stock count with one line. History retains the location, lot, specified final quantity, applied difference, and comment.

## When to use an adjustment

Use an adjustment to:

* correct a small discrepancy detected outside a stock count;
* record known wastage;
* correct a discrepancy when its source movement cannot be reconstructed;
* adjust a location or lot after an investigation.

<Warning>
  Do not use adjustments to hide recurring errors. If discrepancies occur frequently, review receiving, picking, consumption, shipments, or stock counts.
</Warning>

## Create an adjustment

**Path:** **Catalog > Items > Item to change > Warehouse**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Identify the affected stock">
    Review the item, location, and lot. Make sure a recent movement does not explain the difference.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Adjust stock">
    Record the total quantity you counted for that item at the location.

    **Location:** select the specific area or shelf holding the item's stock from the dropdown.

    **Quantity:** enter the total physical stock that should be recorded.

    **Comments (optional):** briefly explain the adjustment to maintain traceability, for example *Material damaged during transfer* or *Discrepancy after counting*.

    Click **Adjust** to apply the change.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the result">
    Check stock and movements to confirm the final quantity is correct.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What Bold records

| Data | Use |
| - | - |
| Location | Defines where the balance is corrected. |
| Lot | Maintains traceability when the item manages lots. |
| Quantity | The final physical stock that should remain. |
| Comment | Explains the correction's reason. |
| Applied adjustment | Difference between recorded stock and the specified final quantity. |

<Info>
  If you do not select a lot for an item without lot management, Bold uses the internal unknown lot. For items with lots, select the actual lot to preserve traceability.
</Info>

## Adjustment or stock count

| Situation | Use |
| - | - |
| A specific difference for one item, location, and lot. | Stock adjustment. |
| Many items in the same area. | Stock count. |
| Periodic count or period closing. | Stock count. |
| Correction after an investigation with a clear cause. | Stock adjustment. |

<Tip>
  If the discrepancy affects many items or locations, create a stock count. This is clearer than a series of separate adjustments.
