Use Effectiveness by employee to analyze a person over a period: how much of their schedule they worked, how long they had no tasks, how much they worked outside their schedule, and their efficiency against operations’ theoretical time. This is the equivalent of OEE for people, known as OLE (Overall Labor Effectiveness).

Review effectiveness

Path: Smart Factory > Dashboards > Effectiveness by employee

1. Choose the employee and period

Select the employee and start and end dates. Bold uses the employee’s schedule (personal schedule, local calendar, and shift) to determine when they should have worked.

2. Read the timeline

Manufacturing operations, maintenance work orders, and warehouse loads and movements count as tasks. If the employee has several simultaneous tasks, their time is split equally among them.
Record sick leave and vacations in the employee’s personal schedule using a workday without periods. They then do not appear as idle time.

3. Interpret indicators

Utilization

Utilization (%) = (Time worked within schedule / Scheduled time) * 100 A low value indicates scheduled time without recorded tasks: insufficient workload, waiting, stops, or unrecorded work.

Efficiency

Efficiency (%) = (Earned standard time / Evaluated actual time) * 100
  • Earned standard time: theoretical time for produced units (good and rejected) according to operation steps, multiplied by the people required.
  • Evaluated actual time: employee time on operations with theoretical time whose production has already been recorded.
Each production record closes a segment of the operation. The theoretical time for recorded units is distributed among everyone who worked in that segment, proportionally to their time. If several people work together on an operation, they all have the same efficiency for it. Time after the last record on an open operation remains pending valuation and does not penalize efficiency until more production is recorded. In long processes, frequently recording partial production updates efficiency sooner. Production recorded without team time is combined with a worked segment of the same valuation state. If the only worked segment is still pending, those units are not attributed to the employee yet; a later production record or completion can make them attributable when Bold recalculates the operation. Time in operations without theoretical time, unattended operations, or cancelled operations is not evaluated.
If an operation records production in much less time than the theoretical time (more than 5 times faster), Bold marks it as unreliable and excludes it from efficiency. This commonly occurs when work is recorded afterward without assigning actual time.

Quality

Quality (%) = (Good units / Produced units) * 100, according to the employee’s share in each segment.

Productivity over schedule

Productivity (%) = (Earned standard time / Scheduled time) * 100 Combines utilization and efficiency in one number.

OLE

OLE (%) = (Utilization (%) / 100) × (Efficiency (%) / 100) × (Quality (%) / 100) × 100

4. Review details

  • By day: schedule, work within and outside schedule, idle time, utilization, and efficiency for each day.
  • By operation: employee and team time, coworkers, evaluated and pending time, earned standard time, efficiency, and attributed units.
  • Idle time: each interval without tasks within the schedule, with the pause reason when known.

Limitations

  • Bold does not record clock-ins: idle time is scheduled time minus recorded work.
  • Past days’ schedules are calculated using the current schedule configuration.
  • Efficiency for earlier days can change when recording production for operations that remained open.
